An unexpected pregnancy affects both of you, and wanting your partner involved in the process is completely reasonable. At the same time, involving someone else in a decision this significant can quickly start to feel overwhelming, especially if your partner has strong feelings and you’re still figuring out yours.

At Pregnancy Help Center, we offer the help and support you deserve. Schedule your no-cost appointment today.

There’s a Difference Between Input and Control

Giving your partner space to share his feelings honestly is part of a healthy conversation. However, there’s a big difference between a partner who shares his thoughts and one who pushes, repeats himself, or makes you feel like your hesitation is the problem. After sharing your news, remember that he may need time to process this information before forming his true thoughts.

How to Have the Conversation Well

If you want to include your partner without losing your footing, a few things can help. Be clear from the start about what you need from the conversation.

Do you want him to listen? Share his perspective? Help you think through logistics? Setting that expectation upfront keeps things from spiraling.

It’s also okay to take breaks. If a conversation starts to feel emotionally exhausting or worrisome, stepping back for a bit can help you both think clearly.

What to Do If You’re Feeling Pushed

If your partner’s involvement has moved from engagement to something that feels pushy, peer counseling at Pregnancy Help Center can help. Having a neutral, private space to process your own feelings, separate from his, is sometimes exactly what you need to come back to the conversation feeling more reassured.

We can discuss your pregnancy options and provide information about each one. Discussing parenting resources, adoption support, and the risks and side effects of abortions can help you assess your options and provide as much detail as possible before arriving at a decision.

We also offer no-cost pregnancy testing and ultrasounds performed by an RN and a sonographer, so you have the medical information you need before making any decisions.

Schedule your no-cost, private appointment today. We also have separate counseling and educational services available for men. He’s 50% of the equation and we can help him walk through this decision making process as well.

Pregnancy Help Center of South County does not provide or refer for abortions.
