Facing an unexpected pregnancy is a deeply personal experience. While deciding how to move forward can be overwhelming, this decision must be yours alone, made with clarity and confidence, and not based on the pressure of others.

Unfortunately, some women may feel pressured by friends, family, or even their partners to choose abortion.

Feel like you are being pressured into making a pregnancy decision that isn’t your own? Here are some signs to look out for. (Looking for a safe space to talk? We’re here for you. Contact us today to schedule a no-cost, private appointment.)

1. Feeling Overwhelmed by Others’ Opinions

One of the first signs of pressure is feeling bombarded by others’ opinions. If your partner, friends, or family members constantly offer their input without giving you space to think, this could be a red flag.

Statements like, “You have to do this,” or “This is your only option” suggest that they’re trying to influence your decision, rather than allowing you to make it independently.

2. Receiving Ultimatums

Another sign of being pressured is when someone issues ultimatums, such as, “If you don’t get an abortion, I’ll leave you,” or “You won’t have my support if you choose to keep the baby.” These ultimatums instill fear and force you to decide based on someone else’s expectations.

A loving, supportive relationship involves respectful discussions, not threats.

3. Not Being Given Time to Consider Your Options

The decision to continue or terminate a pregnancy is significant and deserves thoughtful consideration. If you feel rushed or are told to make a quick decision, this is another sign of pressure.

It’s essential to take your time to explore all of your options, whether it’s parenting, adoption, or abortion.

4. Feeling Like Your Voice Doesn’t Matter

If you’ve expressed interest in other options like parenting or adoption and those around you quickly dismiss or ignore your feelings, it’s a sign that they aren’t respecting your autonomy. You should never feel like your thoughts and desires are invalid.
